What is Office 365 and why is it different?

Office 365 refers to a subscription plan that includes access to Microsoft Office applications plus other online services (cloud services), such as Lync web conferencing and Exchange Online (hosted e-mail for business).Online storage will be available through OneDrive.

Jackson College Office 365 subscription includes the desktop version of the latest Office applications, which employees can install on multiple personal computers and devices (5 total). The Office 365 plans that are online-only are a great choice for certain business needs, and they are compatible with desktop versions of the latest version of Office including Office for Mac.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will my e-mail username and password change?
A: Your Jackson College user name will stay the same 771 format.  Your password will not change.

Q: Will I still be able to use Microsoft Outlook on my computer?
A: Yes, you will be able to use the current versions of Microsoft Outlook and the Microsoft Office365 web client.

Q: Will I still be able to access my Jackson College e-mail on my personal device?
A: Yes, you will be able to use any device you were able to prior to the hosted solution.

Q: Will I still have my public folders, currently in Employee Groupware?
A: Currently, public folders are supported by Microsoft and will be available after we move to Office365.

Q: Do I need to archive or back-up my email?
A: While archiving your email is always a good idea you don’t have to do it as part of this implementation.

Q: Will I lose messages from my current account when my e-mail is moved to Office 365?
A: No, users will keep their e-mail messages.

Q: What if I already purchased Microsoft Office through the Home Use Program?
A: You can continue to use the products you purchased. No refunds are available.

Q: How much storage will my mailbox have?
A: At least 1 terabyte (TB) or about 200 times what you have now.

Q: Will I have to recreate my contacts?
A: No, not contacts stored in your employee groupware.

Q: Will I be able to forward my e-mail to another account?
A: Yes.

Q: Will we still have Q: and G: drives?
A: Yes, Q: and G: drives will be available.  Any changes will be communicated at a later time.

Q: Should I use OneDrive for my work documents?
A: It depends on the data you plan to store. Please reference the Information Security Policy for additional information. Data considered “Restricted” or “Limited Access” shall not be stored on OneDrive.
